Jazz & Fusion
A musical background spanning jazz, fusion and progressive projects.
Magella Cormier is a French-Canadian drummer whose work bridges jazz, fusion and progressive music. His career spans live performance, studio recording and collaborative composition, with projects ranging from acoustic ensembles to music combining drums, keyboards and electronic textures.
His credits include the first line-up of Alain Caron’s Le Band, alongside Jerry De Villiers Jr. and Gerry Etkins, and a contribution to Antoine Fafard’s album Solus Operandi. His career also includes international touring: his band performed in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok in 2012 and 2013.
A long-standing collaborator of keyboardist Simon Côté-Lapointe, Magella has explored jazz, fusion and progressive improvisation, including the Carnatic Jazz Trio with Joy Anandasivam. Their studio collaboration developed into Topochronies, a 2024 project combining drums and keyboards with electronic and electroacoustic elements.
